Brisbane Symphony Orchestra is getting up close and personal to animals in its next concert, which is aimed squarely at our favourite audience of littlies, with Stravinsky's Circus Polka (written for a young elephant - in fact, written for 50 young elephants and 50 ballerinas!) and Prokofiev's ever popular and wonderful Peter and the Wolf with narrator Jason Barry Smith.  Prokofiev's genius at putting the right instrument for each animal and person in the story makes it come vividly alive (especially when the wolves stalk the little duck - watch out, oboe!), especially with Jason's narration.

In addition to animals, BSO will introduce each of its instruments to the audience through Sean O'Boyle's "Hello to the Orchestra" which features charming mini concertos for every single instrument, including "The Pretty Girl Milking Her Cow" (for cor anglais),  "Lonesome Prairie" for our fabulous trumpeter Michael and "Tuba Toothpaste" (no prizes for guessing which instrument).  No one is left out, not even the instrument with the lowest ever recorded note, the contra bassoon.  Sean is one of Australia's most prolific and loved composers and young local musicians are even more blessed as he was appointed music director at the University of Sunshine Coast in July 2017!  BSO is proud and happy to be presenting this delightful work.

This concert is sure to entertain children of all ages, introducing all our different instruments in a fun and instructive way.  For parents who would like to awaken an interest in music in their children, this concert is a must, and for anyone else who just enjoys a romp through the orchestra, it is also a must!
