Sunshine Coast Oriana Choir and the Oriana Youth Choir will present a magical concert event showcasing rarely performed masterpieces of sacred choral music. The concert will also provide the perfect backdrop for the launch of the Choir’s first Studio album, Cathedral Dreaming, which will be available for the first time at the event.
The choirs invite you to come on a journey from the starry heavens to the darkest emotions of human existence. From flights of fancy amongst the great spheres to being unified and grounded with humanity and the earth, the choir presents Ola Gjeilo’s exquisite Sunrise Mass. This modern mass by the young Norweigan composer paints a series of emotional landscapes, combining voice and strings to create a sublime musical experience.
Also featured will be beautiful and rarely heard sacred choral works by Michael Haydn. Younger brother to the more famous Joseph, in his own day Michael Haydn was the best-regarded musician in Salzburg. His exquisite works are still greatly esteemed but not often performed. Sunshine Coast Oriana Youth Choir will also be singing and the choirs will be joined by a magnificent eighteen-piece string ensemble, Queensland Session Orchestra.
All ticket prices include afternoon tea and light refreshments. A bar will also be available.
